A Word from the Director 3rd Quarter 2022

Dear Ministry Partners,

I GUESS WE ARE RETURNING TO OUR NORMAL LIFE!  With the plateauing of cases and being at low risk for COVID-19 spread, the Philippines is slowly returning to its normal state.  However, we are warned not to be complacent.  In fact, the Department of Education prescribed the options of 5 days of in-person classes, blended learning modality, and full distance learning ‘til October, and will be having the full blast, face-to-face starting November!!!  Here in 180 Degrees, we are starting to bring back life to the ministry by having our Sunday onsite rehearsals!!! Wahooo!!!

AND SO, WE ARE GOING BACK TO THE BASICS! As we move forward, we also sensed we need to look backward.  As we prepare for Batch 11’s launching, with the theme logo and t-shirt design ready, and the busyness of rehearsing for the repertoire, we are also reinforcing some basic bible teachings. In our MAD (Mentoring, Accountability, Discipleship) Activate sessions, we emphasized the real-life consequences of SIN. With so many misguided ideas about sin in our culture, with the wrong becoming right, and the complacency that some of the believers have nowadays, we believe that our young people need to be reminded about “Satan’s lies” about sin, that it is destructive, and that true repentance leads to God’s forgiveness and true restoration. I like what AW Tozer wrote, “We need preachers who preach that hell’s still hot, heaven’s still real, sin’s still wrong and the Bible is God’s Word”.  Let us pray that we will be overcomers, especially of the sin that keeps on coming back…

This season, WE HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED A SERIES OF COMEBACKS! After 8 years of silence,  he finally returned to his 180 home and expressed his desire to give back to the ministry.  Yes, our 180 graduate from batches 7-8, Carl Romulo suddenly showed up expressing his desire to once again be a part of 180 Degrees, this time as a volunteer and a supporter of  Batch 11.  One of the previous members of Batch 11 who quit last year, also came back, this time to volunteer in the production team of the new batch’s upcoming launch. Truly, “once a 180 Degree-er, always a 180 Degree-er”.  And I say, “when God calls you back, you can never turn your back.”  😊

Moreover, God is calling us to be instruments for THE RETURN OF THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ISHMAEL.  Just recently, our team went to a mall nearby to have a short conversation with the so-called “Anak ni Ishmael” (Children of Ishmael). We roamed around the place and looked for Muslim vendors to have a small chat, get to know them, or learn more about their business, culture or faith.  Our goal is for our 180 Degree-ers to have the awareness, for barriers to be removed, and to have the passion to reach out and pray for the Muslims.  Our young people were very nervous but excited at the same time.  There were not so many Muslims in the area, so after about an hour, we gathered at our meeting place and left.  After the short trip, we had a debrief and asked them about their experience.  Some have reported a sense of fulfillment.   It also came as a surprise for one of our youths when one of the Muslims that they talked with, opened up and shared his struggles!  Although they were not able to pray for them, we all realized that if we really asked God to open the door for His love to be shared, nothing will be impossible!!! And when God opens the door, we need to seize every opportunity. This activity is in preparation for the upcoming visit to the Muslim community hopefully before the year ends.  Please pray for God’s opportune time.   And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ….that we may proclaim it clearly, as we should.  May we be wise in the way we act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.  May we let our conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that we may know how to answer everyone.” Colossians 4:3-6 (personalized version)

Let me tell you a secret.  When the year 2022 started, I almost lost my sense of hope.  My closest Aunt died of diabetic complications and many other personal challenges happened simultaneously.  The pandemic even aggravated the situation.  During those times, I HAVE LONGED TO BE WITH JESUS AND WISHED FOR HIM TO RETURN SOON!!!  But God had put me back into perspective upon seeing the faces of our 180 Degree-ers when we started the onsite meeting.  I realized that the will of God is for us to serve our purposes here on earth while we wait for His return.  According to the Bible, in Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come”.   The end shall come when all nations are reached by the gospel.  But we have an unfinished task.  There are still approximately 7,000 unreached people groups in the world and the laborers are few. Even though at some point in my life, I have silently wished for Jesus to come back soon, I know we still have a long long way.  If we want Him to return sooner, then we have to work double time for all nations to hear the gospel of salvation!  THANK YOU FOR JOINING US IN THIS VENTURE, BY BEING OUR MINISTRY PARTNER!!! You are also in our prayers!!!

In Christ’s name and fame,

Roselle Brocal
